Heroes of Newerth – Fedora 16

December 23rd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

So, today i installed HoN (“Heroes of Newerth”) on my fedora box, to try it out. I downloaded the linux client installer from their web site and installed the game.

Eagerly, i ran the binary only to be greeted by an ominous message:

$ ./hon-x86_64
warning: The VAD has been replaced by a hack pending a complete rewrite
Crash log saved as '/path/to/my/home_folder/.Heroes of Newerth/game/crash_x.x.x.x_xx.log'
Segmentation fault

In order to fix this, i created the file named startup.cfg, inside the

$HOME/.Heroes of Newerth/game

folder, where i added the following line:

SetSave "gl_modesetting" ""

FUSE ESB (Servicemix) 4.3.0 and Debian Lenny

Following text will help those who have problems enabling login over SSH for karaf console, this walkthrough is based on FUSE ESB (Servicemix) 4.3.0 (the procedure is the same for 4.2.0). Even though these steps were made on Debian Lenny, once installed and configured bundle can easily be transferred to another linux distribution (I have tested this approach on SLES 10 SP1, that is i moved configured FUSE ESB (servicemix) bundle from Debian Lenny to SLES 10 SP1).

Archiva: The Build Artifact Repository Manager

February 11th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

So, last weekend i was upgrading our main production server to a 64bit version of Debian linux distribution. One of the tasks after the upgrade was to implement Archiva: The Build Artifact Repository Manager and have it authenticate users against our Active Directory server.

The procedure is quite simple, however, the documentation provided on their site makes baby Jesus cry. Below i will describe the steps to get this done, as well as using mySQL instead of the default derby database.

These steps are made on Debian/Lenny, however installation/configuration of the standalone archiva package wouldn’t differ on other linux kernel based distributions.
